Convict Church Stone Conservation

Work is being undertaken during 2015 to conserve the sandstone to the Clocktower/Belltower of the Convict Church. The scheduling of works follows the dislodgement of large stone pieces from the facade, which presented both a public safety and conservation/maintenance risk. This is the only portion of the Church not to have been reconstructed from the ground up and as such the damage from rusted metal inclusions and invasive ivy roots had been unattended to. This is the first of several stages of stone conservation.

Future stages of the project will investigate the condition and extent of stone flags below the turfed interior and evaluate opportunities to re-expose this fabric and improve the presentation of internal walkways.
