Interpretation Signage Project

Over the past year the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority has been undertaking a project to redesign the signage across our three sites – Port Arthur, the Coal Mines and Cascades Female Factory Historic Sites.

In late 2012, we were successful in receiving a Tourism Quality grant through the Australian Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism. With this grant we hope to get our signage project off the ground!

The project has developed a framework for an innovative program of signage that will visually link PAHSMA’s three sites, introduce visitors to their heritage values, establish connections with the convict story, and ensure that the more local stories of the community are told.

The first stage of signage was rolled out in mid 2014, with more to follow in 2014-2015.

The 2013 signage project funded by Commonwealth Government is drawing to a close, our trials have all been conducted across the site and new signs are popping up everywhere. This project will continue into the 2014-2015 financial year with interpretation and wayfinding signage flowing out across our sites.
